June 25th 2008 - 11th place for Demon at White Mountain Open. read more..
For their second tournament of the year, Demon did well at the White Mountain Open by ranking 11th out of 20 Open teams. With some help from a few of Mephisto players, Demon improved its ranking which, at the beginning of the tournament, was 18th. It all started in the first game when we lost by 2 points against DieNasty, a rough team who were playing “man-to-mea poach”, which turned out to be an excellent idea considering the wind and the miniature sized field. With a 2 point lead after half, we weren’t able to capitalize and win the game. This loss immediately cancelled our chances of making the top 8. The rest of the day was just fine; we won our other 3 games, with no major story to report.
The next day started with a game against Gun Noise, a team that had some players from New Noise and Guns Slingers. We imposed our rhythm at the beginning of the game to take an early lead and managed to keep it until the end. It was a very nice victory, considering the years of experience we conceded to the opponent.
Our race to the 9th place came to an end when we had to face off with “Slow children”. Compared to the previous game, we started off too slow, and we had to play catch up, right from the begining. Their attack was successful and we had problems creating turnovers and converting them into points. Luckily, our offense had success and the speed of Yoland and PB kept us in the game. It looks like the “horn” of the soft cap woke us up because we were able to produce 3 points in a row, but it was too little, too late. In the end, this was an awesome experience for all the Demon players who played a high level of ultimate for the very first time.
